BPP admires authors who challenge our perspectives, or who offer less-common inroads to the most compelling subjects of our time. But we only accept submissions that fit within our company's mission. So please read that over carefully before you submit.
Although we do not limit our titles to certain genres, we are leaning heavily toward nonfiction at the moment: literary nonfiction, memoir, parenting, philosophy, politics, pop culture, sociology, books of previously unpublished essays or short stories, and anything funny. However, particularly strong works of literary fiction by authors with a marketing plan are considered.
Your proposal needs to be substantive, well thought-out, and complete. We may be small, but our standards aren't. We are extremely selective and consider numerous factors in taking on a new title. For nonfiction, we require a full proposal (if you aren't sure what that means, we kindly ask that you read this) and a minimum of three completed chapters. If your book has a graphic component, please send only a query and design treatment. If you believe a work of fiction fits into the mission of our press, query only after you've finished your manuscript. Please do not submit your full manuscript unless we have requested it.
We are delighted to be receiving so many new submissions, but it means we are a bit behind and you should be prepared to wait a few weeks before you hear back. Lastly, please don't take it personally if your work is not selected. We receive many submissions and currently only publish very few titles a year. The odds are not in your favor. But that doesn't mean the right fit for you is not out there. We encourage you to persevere in your search and keep us in mind for your next project.
All submissions should be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. In an attempt to be as kind as possible to the environment, we accept only digital submissions.
